A 48-year-old longshoreman was killed Monday morning in an industrial accident at Port Manatee. The name of the victim has not been released.

Sheriff’s deputies and other emergency responders were sent to the port’s berth 12 at 8:36 a.m.

The victim was part of a crew unloading bananas from a ship when the accident occurred.

The victim was walking across a loading area when he was pinned underneath a 5,500-pound crane basket, according to sheriff’s reports.

Just another Sunday night in Florida: Tampa teen accused of burning down mother's house.

A teenager doused his mother’s bed with gasoline and burned down her house Sunday, a day after arguing with her about a cell phone and head-butting her, police said.

Aldwin Chyrstian Caceres, 18, was arrested on a charge of first-degree arson after emptying a container of gasoline onto two couches in the living room as well as his mother’s bed, igniting the furniture, according to Tampa police.
